ACCA awards FEE's David Devlin honorary membership
ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has awarded honorary membership to David Devlin, President of the European accountants' representative body FEE (Fédération des Experts Comptables Européens).
The prestigious award, only the fourth of its type ever bestowed by ACCA, was conferred on Mr Devlin by ACCA President Dennis Yeates at a meeting of the Association's global council yesterday. (Sunday, 25th June)
Dennis Yeates said: "ACCA's Council took the decision in 1999 to allow the award of honorary membership to those rare individuals who have played a truly exceptional role in the development of the international accountancy profession.
"David Devlin certainly falls into that category, having been the only person to be appointed as FEE President for two consecutive terms of office. All the member bodies of FEE had to agree to amend the constitution to allow for the extra term, such was their eagerness to retain David's leadership and vision. He has played a key role in representing the European profession in crucial dealings with the European Commission, the US Oversight Board and the Securities & Exchange Commission on issues such as the development of International Financial Reporting Standards and Sarbanes-Oxley".
Dennis Yeates concluded: "For his work, David is deservedly regarded as one of the most prominent leaders of the accounting profession and thoroughly merits our award."
David Devlin, in response said: "I am delighted to accept this award. ACCA has been a strong supporter of FEE's work and the efforts we have made on behalf of Europe's accountants. We look forward to their continuing support in the challenges ahead."
